So last week we talked spring trends and this week were talking spring essentials.
Weirdly I seemed to end up with 9 again so maybe 9 is my lucky number. I’m a super casual dresser so for me my spring essentials will always be pieces like the denim skirt, a basket bag and a denim jacket. . . preferably all worn together! But then of course there’s always the pieces that are spring essentials no matter your personal style. The wardrobe chameleons that can fit with any style and any outfit like the classic loafer or the trench coat.
Scroll to the bottom for a video on how to style the trends with my key picks and a little round up of my faves or keep scrolling for the pieces I deem spring essentials and my top picks from the high street and high end!
9 Spring Essentials To Invest In Now
The Denim Skirt
I believe so much in the fact that the denim skirt is a spring essential that I’ve invested heavily in it to the point where my denim skirt ownership has now reached double figures. Of course there’s nothing more wardrobe essential than the classic blue denim levis skirt but who says you can’t have fun with it and pick something that’s more to your taste and style like this pink gingham skirt?

The Denim Jacket
Something that up until last year I didn’t deem myself cool enough to wear, or pull of should I say! Now? I love it! I’ve been wearing it loads as a double denim look with a classic trench layered over the top! That’s one thing I always love about spring styling is the layers upon layers!

The Classic Loafer
OK so the classic loafer may not just be a spring essential, maybe more of an all time wardrobe essential but I do think that spring time is when loafers really come into their own. You’re fed up of wearing boots and it’s not quite open toe weather yet, you go for a loafer. Obviously Gucci is King when it comes to loafers but every store has a pair now so there’s quite literally something for every price point!

The Summer Trainers
Maybe not a spring essential for all people, but for me, I’ve become such a trainer lover this past year and obviously trainers are back in a big way and I’m not just talking about ugly trainers here. I love to wear mine all year round but I definitely gravitate towards styles with a nod to summer like my new denim Saint Laurent’s or these espadrille style Supergas.

The Statement Sunglasses
It’s a look. Sunnies are the icing on the metaphorical spring outfit cake so to go without them would be an absolute disaster. If you ever look at your outfit and think there’s something missing I guarantee you it’s the sunglasses. This season they’re sassy and small but I’ve found a love for Chimi Eyewear’s colour block styles so I think I’ll be wearing all shapes so long as they’re pink on pink.

The Basket Bag
I honestly didn’t know if we’d all be looking back at last seasons bag choices and thinking, why did I carry around a picnic basket on a daily basis and think I looked good? Why did no one tell me I was being ridiculous? but no. Guys the basket bag is here to stay and I for one am super happy to be pulling out my old favourites along with some newbies. And let me tell you, it’s never to early to start wearing them. I wore my basket bag the other day with my new Acne shearling coat, it’s a pretty confused outfit but sometimes those are the best right?!

The Trench Coat
Black, white, printed or PVC the trench coat is always in style. The fabrics may change along with the prints and colours but each season it comes back better and stronger than before. Of course the classic trench coat will always be a wardrobe essential and investing in a Burberry trench coat will always be a good decision you won’t regret. I definitely have it on my list of purchases I want to make and already this spring my trench coat’s been worn daily.

The Cardigan
Another layering piece. Maybe more as outerwear for when the weather gets milder as thats 100% how I prefer to wear it, as a light layer instead of a jacket! I recently invested in this Acne dream which I now want in another colour, I’m thinking grey, and it was such a great decision. When you love something this much and it’s a classic wardrobe staple, it’s a no brainer. Yes it’s one of my spring essentials but can you really put a cardigan down just for spring? It’s an all year rounder let’s be honest! There’s so many great alternatives on the high street and some incredible chunky knits that will serve as jackets even now when it’s still pretty chilly!

The Transitional Jumper Dress
The jumper dress to me is often thought of as a autumn wardrobe essential but honestly I think it works for both transitional seasons, and winter if it’s mild enough! I would possibly switch out the OTK boots from autumn and pair it with some ankle boots or better yet the summer trainers we mentioned earlier, accessorise with a basket bag and you’re good to go!
