Going Freelance

Going freelance wasn’t really a case of can I or should I, more a case of I must, I will. I know for a lot of people it’s something that they deliberate over for a while, but luckily for me I have no major overheads, still in the comfy nest of mum and dad, and I had to make it work, going back full time just wasn’t an option! I was working previously as a BA at a well known shopping channel, though I was really good at the job and at times felt it was something I could excel in, it just wasn’t for me! I can’t bare the thought of sitting round that same table day in day out and office bitchiness is just not what I’m about. I’m sure you get it in every office, particularly in buying, but it’s not something I was used to and quite frankly, not something I wanted to get used to! So long story short, with the constant digs and put downs I felt i was going up stream without a paddle. One thing led to another and I found myself signed off by the Dr for stress and anxiety! Not something I would ever have imagined myself saying, I was always the smiley happy one! Three months later I made the decision I couldn’t go back, the only way to move forward was to start again in something I truly enjoyed, my calling! I’d worked as a freelance stylist before whilst I was at uni so still had some contacts, I’d always seen it as something I couldn’t do full time.. nothing that fun can be considered a ‘proper’ job surely? Whilst working for yourself is a breath of fresh air there are always things to consider, these are my top tips! Network, Network, Network! All day everyday you need to network! Working as a stylist your always meeting new make up artists, models and photographers, not only can you help each other out to build up your portfolio in your spare time, but these are the people who know people you need to know! Speaking to people is how you find out about studios and get contact details! Be flexible. I don’t get booked for my following week until the Thursday before ( if I’m lucky), sometimes you get called the same morning or the day before. You have to be flexible and just go with the flow, I found this hard because I’m a planner but it also has it’s up sides, hello last minute holidays! Never burn bridges. Its a small world, no really, you never know who knows who and bad feedback can spread quickly. Always be on your top form. Be Sociable! As a stylist I think half of your job is to keep the photographer and model entertained. Honestly, you cannot do this job if your antisocial! Make sure you put money aside for tax and keep a track of your incomings and outgoings (keep…

Boyfriend Tee

Boyfriend Tee

My absolute style staple that I can’t live without is my favourite white t shirt, courtesy of H&M menswear! As someone who appreciates a good white t shirt, I have to admit that I pick up my favourite pieces in the menswear section. This is my favourite boyfriend tee, the linen mix means the fabric has a marl effect look which is slightly see through, but not too much! Mens tees just fit so much nicer in my opinion, I’m someone who prefers loose clothing, so mens t shirts are perfect as they aren’t fitted. Womens t shirts always seem to be made of uber stretch material with a fitted shape and it just doesn’t do it for me! I’ve dressed it up with my gorgeous new elilla Jewellery layered gold necklace and pearl ring, delicate gold jewellery is the perfect finishing touch to any outfit! I love my new Next lace up wedges, I’m not usually a wedges kinda gal but these ones are an exception! These paired with my leather look Topshop jeans give a plain white tee a smarter look.   Get my Brown and Berry bag now for just £149.00 whilst it’s still on offer! Offer runs out on 30/05/15! T Shirt: H&M | Jeans : Topshop | Wedges: Next | Bag: Brown and Berry | Hat: H&M | Watch: Larsson & Jennings | Ring: Elilla Jewellery | Necklace: Elilla Jewellery

Mindful Colouring

Mindful Colouring

Yes you read that right, recently whilst browsing the book section on amazon I came across an adult colouring book promising to bring peace and calm. This may seem laughable to some, but as someone who suffers from anxiety if a colouring book helps, a colouring book I will get! The book is full of calming patterns that when colouring in, put you into a state of meditation. Emma Farrarons says ” the act of colouring in – carefully and attentively filling a page with colour , the feel of the pencil in your hand as you meditate on the beauty of the whole illustration” helps the mind to relax, almost like art therapy! I’ve found it so relaxing, it put’s you into a kind of trance and I’m not ashamed to say as a 25 year old woman, I enjoy colouring. I actually look forward to it! I love doing it in the morning with a cup of tea and breakfast, starting the morning off beautifully!   Colouring Book: Amazon | Pens: Amazon | Cup: Yonder Living | Ring: Shop JJDR | Bracelet: Shop JJDR

Birthday Wishlist

Birthday Wishlist

This Saturday it’s my birthday! I’m going to be 25 which I have been informed ( far more times than necessary) is a quarter of a century. I’m definitely not ready to embrace adulthood yet but I will take the presents thank you very much! I know it’s a bit late but I thought I would put together a little birthday wishlist ( Mum are you reading this?). I wont actually be here for my birthday as my ever so thoughtful boyfriend is whisking me away to a surprise location ( how the hell am I supposed to pack for that!?) to celebrate in style.   1 – I’m a big fan of fringing, this cute little clutch is great for summer and as a jeans and t shirt kinda gal, it’s the perfect finishing touch – Zara : £29.99 2- I’m still loving Next, they are so on it this season and this cute little dress would be perfect for if my weekend away is in the sun! – Next: £50.00 3 – My one true love in life is notebooks. I buy them on a  weekly basis, each one has a specific use I promise. As a result I have at least 10 notebooks on the go at any time and of course I’m always on the lookout for a new beauty like this one – Zara Home: £15.99 4- This Daniel Wellington watch is perfect for summer, love the blue and white strap. I always prefer men’s watches to ladies, I like the chunkier style and the large face – Daniel Wellington: £149.00 5- In my opinion, you can never have too many candles. Diptyque are the creme de la creme of the candle world, even if you don’t burn it just look at that pretty packaging – John Lewis: £40.00 6- This elcy clothing bra is almost too beautiful to wear under your clothes! Love the gold straps and perfect for if your a small boobed lady like me – Elcy Clothing : £25.00 7- Love these lace up shoes, the best Aquazzura dupes I’ve seen. If I don’t ( or someone else doesn’t) get them I know in a months time when they’re all sold out I will be kicking myself – Topshop : £62.00

Classic Tote

Classic Tote

This week I was blessed to receive the most beautiful gift in the form of this classic tote bag. The lovely girls over at Brown and Berry sent me the ‘CHERRY’ tote to try out and I honestly haven’t put it down since the day I got it! It’s so versatile with a removeable chain and grab handle, and in black and gold I don’t think there’s any outfit it doesn’t finish off perfectly! I’m a huge fan of croc skin so the beautifully finished front is the icing on the cake for me! For this look I dressed it down a bit for a smart/casual look with my favourite Primark denim skirt and my fluffy jacket. This jacket is still in the sale for £15 in H&M stores and makes the perfect light Spring layer! To finish the look off I’ve added my old faithful Topshop shoes, I’ve had these for years and have worn them to death! Totally contemplating buying a new pair the same.. is that crazy? If your as in love with this classic tote as me, make a quick decision whilst it’s reduced to just £149 from £235 for a limited time only! Buy it here!
