National Sibling Day - Collect Plus

My Sister. My Best Friend. My Heart.

I decided that today would be the perfect day to finally do that post you guys have been requesting about my relationship with my sister ( I actually have three BTW!) Lauren and honour her with a post for National Sibling Day. We took these images for an interview we did with CollectPlus on their blog about our sister/friend/colleague dynamic so you should definitely go and check that out!

National Sibling Day

So as I said before I do have three siblings and though I love my sisters equally, with just 18 months dividing us and a career in common, my bond with Lauren is something more than sisterhood. We’ve always had a close relationship, being each others play mates since we learnt to talk and immediately began arguing over who had the polly pocket first. We’d probably both still tell you that the one with the slide was in fact mine.

We spent hours playing “science experiment” a game where Lauren made liquid concoctions I had to drink and developing dance routines. The one to “these boots were made for walking” was not a personal favourite. It involved me laying on the floor whilst Lauren donned a pair of my mums heels and walked up and down on top of me for the duration of the song. She’s the only person that know’s I had a hernia when I was 7, not least because she gave it to me making me carry her around. We shared our first job as Avon ladies – we split a round (youngest Avon ladies ever), she came with me to my first concert to see STEPS live after hours of making up dance routines in our bedroom and stuck up for me on the bus there when someone picked on me for wearing a pink denim jacket that of course I borrowed from her wardrobe.

Later in life we grew apart, her preferences were drinking with boys on the meadows ( we still cry about the fact that my mums snoopy friend once bought her a phone case that said “flirt” after reporting back to mum having seen her on the meadows) and my preferences were collecting the entire SIMS bundle and playing out my social life through Betty & Jim. It took us until after university when we both moved back home to really re kindle our friendship when we started to spend time together out of choice.

Now I can honestly say that most of the time she is the only person I want to tell when something exciting happens, if I get a plus 1 she’s there and likewise she’ll always get me into events with her, we are each others career wingmen and with her I can be my true weird self. Since she started blogging around a year ago my life has changed for the better. I have a hand to hold, a person to share gossip with that I know won’t be spilled, a sounding board, a photographer, an agent she’s everything I need and more.

This is starting to sound like a love letter I know. But she’s there when I need her and yes, we still have screaming matches over who mum bought the pack of twiglets for despite being nearly 30 but if you can’t argue with your sister over a packet of twiglets, who can you?

Happy National Sibling Day

Aww – how nice! My sister and I are best friends – quite a novel thing in school where everyone else was in competition with their siblings and we were just joking around like idiots. Our friendship survived her move to the UK (for ten years! I went and visited her of course) the passing of our mother and now Angela (my blister) has a 6 month old baby Ben! We still speak every day and she’s the one person I trust in the entire world to tell my true feelings to and know she won’t only not judge me but most likely feel exactly the same!
I watched you and your sisters vlog at Bicester Village and you’re so similar it made me lol 🙂
